Got started on my Fujimi RX-8. I was a little surprised at how much sanding/filling I had to do on the front and rear seam lines. I sprayed the body with Dupli grey primmer, then Tamiya Fine White Primmer as a base coat and then Tamiya White Pearl all from rattle cans. The paint went on fine but when it dried there were some spots where the pearl ran away from or almost like the white base bled through.
Should I have used a base coat like a silver or some other color?
In picture #10 you might be able to see (my camera is a wimp) one of the spots. Where the trunk line comes down to the top of the bumper there is a band from tail light to tail light.

Can't really see what you're talking about, but the Tamiya pearl white isn't real pearly and you do have to mist it on and not overdo it or the pearl might separate. Just let it dry and sand it lightly and reshoot the pearl white. Use clear to make it glossy, don't try to get the pearl white wet and glossy but make sure it covers.
The early RX8 kits like yours had awful front bumpers in both design and shape; they redesigned the entire kit body later so the front bumper wasn't split like that, they moved/upgraded the headlights, lessened the thickness of the front bumper, and gave a chrome insert for the taillight bezels. Even w/the design changes of the bumpers and front/rear lamps it's still a bit odd looking from some angles. Very strange kit! They do look good finished. I have the Amemiya version in pearl white, but I haven't yet clearcoated it.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. My last coast was pretty wet with my thinking being wet = pearl. Luckily I did buy the clear pearl at the same time I got the white. Wet sanding and mist coats sounds real good right now!

I can't really see it in the pic either but having used the Tamiya pearl white before I can say from experience that light coats to build up the coverage is the way to go. Get your gloss from the clear coats over the pearl white but take it easy on the first couple coats of clear so it doesn't soften the pearl underneath and cause other paint problems........
Yeah... just like Bob said....... ;) :D
