This model has been somewhat of a nightmare. Hopefully the nightmare is over!

I was inspired by Brian's "612 Stradale" concept that he started w/the Scaglietti. I wanted something equally as cool; the stock version from the factory leaves me a bit cold...as does buyers, it seems to be depreciating like a rock for people selling them.

Anyway, the Cliff's Notes description of changes to the body: Opened up a side vent behind wheels, added mesh. Opened up outer front bumper vents, added mesh. Reshaped side glass profile to more of a "classic 456" style. Used new Viper hood, reshaped to fit, like Brian's, but I filled the vents. The filled vents caused me much headache as my paint consistently caused ghosting of the vents. Not only that I was having a nightmare getting final clear on the car w/o getting trash in the paint...repeately on each "final" coat of clear. I eventually (back in September) cut out the vents, to be replaced w/mesh. Great design idea, but then every time I tried to apply paint over the primer, I was getting paint blisters...the paint was lifting from below in a few key areas, repeatedly. In areas w/o any filler. I fixed them repeatedly, to no avail...every time the hood hit the dehydrator the blisters recurred. I nearly destroyed the model several times. I finally got wise and ground the offending areas as thin as possible and laminated sheet styrene over them, refilled, reprimed, repainted. It worked! No more blisters from the dehydrator. Dunno if it was Revell's newfangled plastic or what.

I've rethough wheels/tires from the beginning (they were Pegasus 23's w/painted centers), and am most likely going to use the 20's from an Infiniti FX45 kit w/smaller tires. I like the design for a GT car like this. Brian hates them in chrome LOL. Finish will be polished aluminum; in between matt silver and the chrome you see here. Though final wheel choice will depend on how the car looks finished out more, when glass/interior/etc. is installed; there's a small chance the original Pegasus rims might still get used. Wheels and brakes will be applied at the end.

Mid point w/carbon fiber covering hood fiasco. Decided that I didn't like this and I was seeing the ghost of every vent under them:

Got a lot accomplished on the 612 so far this weekend; hope to have it finished today.

The engine/chassis assembly is very straightforward, no problems were encountered w/their assembly. Considering this is a Revell AG kit sourced in Poland it's outstanding; the quality easily surpasses that of the Fujimi Enthusiast IROC Porsches we're working on. The engine/transaxle look great w/the proper paint detailing, but so much of it gets hidden from view both underhood and underneath. The aero panels on the chassis pretty much hide 90% of the detail work.

Here's the chassis and engine as they sit. Next step is dry-fitting the interior before painting/assembling and then to the final steps.

Transaxle that you'll never see again once it's build.

Now that I'm past my bodywork gremlins I'm having fun getting this one finished up.
