Thanks Henry

Grokked this kit at Centennial Park last summer, it followed me home on Sunday. Though I claim no knowledge of the guy who got so many '69-'72 Grand Prix (Prix's? Prixes? Bueller?!) from the collection that he's now required to build a Superfly/Sweathogs version as his penance :D

Original '69 MPC Pontiac Bonneville HT. Original builder wasn't too swift at adding much detail, paint is sprayed but a bit sloppy, he did mask off the roof and parts of the interior. It's enamel so it should strip right off. Best thing is he used his glue sparingly-this is not glue bomb! Just like the '74 Caprice that I restored last year (from same source), it came apart very cleanly. I will have to do some sanding/filling of glue-damage from the window/interior posts under the decklid, also fill a few sink marks, revise a bit of the chrome trim at the base of the A pillars to line up w/the hood. People complain about new models not being perfect. These old annuals weren't perfect either

I'll need to brush a little Alclad on the bumpers in a couple places, use a little BMF on them, make the rear bumper filler that's missing (only 2 bucks from Modelhaus but I can make the part in the time it takes me to fill the order). Hopefully I can scrounge some Rally wheels for it (wheelcovers in these kits are not correct...).

I've got some gold MCW paint that should look good on it, black vinyl top and interior may be white, gold, or black...not sure yet.

With all the Easy Off fumes, I had to! :D

This one will be super fly when it's done. I hope ;)

The body stripped easily with one shot of Easy Off.

The interior (seats/dash brush painted w/thick gloss black) did not. Easy Off didn't do a lot after 1 application. So I tried Dawn Power Dissolve. It didn't. I dunked it in 99% alcohol. After a hiccup or two, it was clear that it did nothing. I brushed on a couple coats of Polly S Easy Lift Off. Might as well have been olive oil. Zero, zip, nada. So the seats and dash got 3 more applications of Easy Off. It worked okay enough, and the restored interior will be black.

I am looking forward to seeing the end result. I am sure Paul will be hot on your heels doing his resto of the 69 GP

Super Clean seems to work on just about everything for me, except Tamiya rattle can blacks.

I didn't want to potentially wait 3 weeks for it to work. I have some, but since I got the Easy Off to work w/in 24 hours I'm happy.

I'm trying to stay away from Super Clean unless I can insure no contact with my skin, that stuff is evil, but then again the fumes from EZ Off are not any better unless you have a ventilated paint booth. I think we should talk one of our dentist into selling us one of the "polishers" they use which blasts your teeth clean with a combination of H2O and calcium carbonate.

That might be worth a try, "Thanks" for posting the info.

Just noticed that it comes with aluminum oxide abrasive. That might be a little severe for plastic. Ground walnut shells, or such, would be better, if they will feed properly ??????.

And at $90, you would need to use it a LOT to pay off.

Yep, but I could start a side business of stripping models for people. I have enough of my own to paractice on.

Hey Bob, any progress on this one? I have an extra chassis, exhaust, & a few other parts if needed. LMK.

Thanks, I think I'm good to go on it. The body has a coat of primer and some filler on the sink marks. Hope to get it painted soon.

The only part I'm missing is the rear bumper filler; I have a mint unbuilt kit to pattern it from if necessary, I think I can get that part shaped pretty quick w/some styrene.

I just found out MCW does a '63 Grand Prix...will definitely need to get that one eventually.
