I'll continue my Porsche project updates here, as AF is really frustrating to use now.
Engine installed in chassis.

Shock absorber parts. Later painted red.

Suspension installed. Had to make some compromises as the kit's details werent all there and the design would have made it very difficult to correct (the brake disk is too thin and the caliper is too wide. Kit parts didnt include any caliper that showed from the outside of the wheel).

Here's the rear end, almost completed. I am moving on to the interior and putting in the control linkages (throttle, clutch, gear shifter linkage, etc.)

I sure hope the body fits over all this!

Amazing. Looking forward to seeing this make all our other Porsches pale by comparison in November ;)
Hmmm, anyone up for converting the 1/12 Tamiya Martini slantnose into an IROC racer?

Thanks for all the nice comments, everyone. This has been a fun project for me.
A little update - just adding a few details in the engine compartment and pretty far along with the interior.

Here's an overflow tank I made from some material, either Delrin or UHMW

The round things

Sparse interior. Seats pretty much cover everything up. The holes in the floor are supposed to vent the high pressure air inside the car.

Working on the seatbelts and probably the tail lights next. I'm just jumping around.

Breathtaking! There is going to be an immense competition at NNL.

Wow  this is really coming together nicely.
Every part added is treated as kit unto itself.
Looks great Ken.

Its been awhile, but I've been working away on this. Latest pics:
Here's the basic paint scheme, Camel yellow and french blue from Tamiya rattle cans.

Main decaling done. I'd like to find some 1/12 sponsor decals from the early 70's but haven't had any luck. Any of you guys have any ideas?

Next is clearcoating and painting the headlight area before weathering.

I was thinking about this yesterday wondering what your status was on it. I love the number badges for some reason. I can wait to see more.
Maybe see it at the meeting this weekend?

Looking fantastic. I'm clueless about where you might find those 1/12 sponsor decals, though I have a couple of original designs from the IROC project (Union 76 and Champion) on the computer that could be scaled up from 1/24 and printed out. What sponsors do you need?

I'd like some Euro company decals, like Dunlop, Shell, Marcal, Marelli Magnetti?, Bilstein, etc. Even a Koni decal would be okay. Do any of the 1/12 F1 kits of 70's subjects have such decals?

I have no idea what those F1 kits have for decals; none in my collection.

Wow, that paint really sets it off.
I like the black outlines on the roundels.

That's just an amazing build! It's cool to see it come together, even if it is from all directions at once. I'm surprised there aren't any 1:12 sponsor sheets out there, or even any aftermarket decal sets you could steal from?

Wonder if there are any useable vintage stickers/decals in 1/10 scale for R/C cars?

I saw where Strada Sports carries 1/12 scale driver figures. I didn't look at the decal sets to see if they had any but I've seen 1/12 on eVilbay.

F1 Specialties offers Tamiya decals in 1/20th and 1/12th. Why wouldn't they work?

I found a decal sheet for the Tamiya Ferrari 312B that has a variety of sponsor decals that will work. Thanks to F1 Specialties. Now if I could only find some Tam iya clear coat. Only one local hobby shop carries TS and they're out. Oh well, the 914 will get some work this weekend.

There are Hobby Shops around Atlanta that have TS, oh well, I guess you have to come to the meeting if you really want paint.

Time to dredge this up for an update!
Got most of the decaling done. The decals came from a Tamiya Ferrari F1 kit and worked out pretty well. The decals that will complete the numbers will be put on after the body top is attached to the chassis pan to get good alignment.

After decaling, I glass beaded the front for a weathering effect. I paid good money for the sandblaster, so I'm damn sure going to use it. I'll be doing more weathering after the body halves are together.

Still a number of little things to do before attaching the two bady halves. Hope you enjoyed the peek!
