Thanks to "crispy" for the background work; apparently Revell has axed the curbside "easy kit" of the upcoming Shelby GT 500 version of the new Mustang. No details as of yet, we may never find out why. It wasn't due out for a long time anyway.

I suspect that it was being done in the simple curbside configuration to go along w/a promo; that's how Revell does the C6 CV, various PT Cruisers, etc. Perhaps they lost a promo deal?? Perhaps there's more Shelby greed than meets the eye.

Nobody has said if the Shelby will end up in the regular glue lineup, where it belongs anyway-the world was scratching it's collective head over that one when Revell announced it. Time will tell.

The only all-new for '06 kit that I'd cry over being cancelled would be the '06 Camaro concept car ;)

I too hope that greed wasn't a factor. I know this kit would have been well received. I had planned on purchasing a few as well as a few more Mustang kits. Undoubtedly this will kill a few Mustang sales.
Looks like diecast may be the only way to get this car now.
I'll keep my eyes open for any more cancellations.
Chris

Nobody will ever know, as Revell doesn't ever say much and none of their employees post on public message boards. The ones that did were booted out the door or quit.

I don't understand why Revell and other US companies must post all their releases for the next 12-36 months and then take preorders and then decide if they'll make them. The Japanese announce a model just a few months (if that) before they hit the street. They have confidence in their marketing, and tool up a kit based on street smarts. Revell lost their street smarts when they went to the "announce a kit, see if it gets presales, and then go ahead w/tooling" school of marketing. Therefore Revell will never, ever kit a new car and have it available when it comes out. Sad. They are now always guaranteed to be behind the curve. And leaving customers mad because they were promised something that won't be delivered.

It may be left over paranoia from the AMT Star Wars debacle a few years ago. I'm sure more of it is what kind of projected numbers they can show Wally World & Target.

It was dissapointing enough that it was going to be an Easy Line kit but like the C6 CV I would have bought it anyway. But not to produce it at all really stinks.......

They might still make a Shelby, but in glue form. Or they might do the next Mach I. I'm sure there will be good variations on the Mustang from Revell. They probably had to spend more $$ doing an all-new curbside Shelby vs. doing some new tool inserts for the GT glue kit to make it a Shelby. And if there's no Shelby, there are plenty of custom Mustang ideas out there that are better. Or the resin aftermarket can wake up. I'm surprised we're not already seeing some resin Saleen parts. The aftermarket is so often focused on ancient history they forget people that buy new ;)
