I'm always tempted when I see one at 50% off. I love the newstalgia wheels/tires; just wish the kit came w/a Duvall...though I know there are resin frames out there but they're half the price of the kit

Or I could do a speedster and not worry about that ;)

Good luck w/it Dennis!

Dennis:

This is going to be one serious build, it will fit right in with our proposed themes for 2007.

Gotta be low and cool and have whitewalls

I really would like to loosely emulate this car w/a Deuce, and 1/8 would be a kewl way to do it:

Would be a ton 'o work unless I really simplify it.

Dennis....Dennis...Did you have to start so early? Now Im going to be tempted to build one. I'll just have to stay clear of Hobby Lobby. Good luck with the build, I cant wait to see it progress.

Hey Mike, you need to finish your scratchbuild before you think of anything else!! You are doing such a great job, don't get steered away from it!! And this 1/8 will not be done for this years show!!

Thanks Dennis. Just remember, the bigger the model the more detail! I imagine it will get the usual opening door and trunk treatment?

If you need anything let me know! Check out the site I gave you and post up some of your work there maybe?

 That is one monster of a kit. Your rat looks like a matchbox car next to it.

I know this is gonna be one nasty car when your done with it. I hope it doesn't ruin the contest table with all the oil that'll be dripping out. :D

(Cute dolls in the background too buddy!):p

This is the stock valve cover...

This picture shows where I have cut the acorn nuts off and sanded them down! They will be replaced with 00-90 brass hex-head bolts...

nice work so far Dennis. I like how the windsheild is attached the way it would be on a real rat rod, very realistic!

Started on the valve covers this morning. The first 2 pics show the stock valve covers with the acorn nuts.....

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a393/dennisj_/Big%20Deuce/bigd14.jpg

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a393/dennisj_/Big%20Deuce/bigd15.jpg

These 2 pics show the acorn nuts drilled out with the studs coming in from the back side of the valve cover. Since this is a po' boy build, he could not afford acorn nuts. Plus if you think about it, the threaded bolts come from the heads/block up through the valve covers! This will give it a more life like appearence. I bought a engraving ball for the Dremel last night, I am going to knock a little more off the nut detail on the valve covers and use washers also...

If he was real cheap, he would do what I told you the other night...duct tape the heads on. Thats what real rat rodders do.

That's gonna look real good.

Dennis, taking a second look at it I just realized that those were not acorn nuts and that they actually are the studs poking through. Nice work with that. Will you be at the meeting sunday with this behemoth?

I got a few things done over the past few days! Finished drilling the holes in the v/covers and manifold. Stripped the chrome off and sprayed Tamiya aluminum. Added the bolts, nuts and washers. Will add the grime and patina later.

You're really bringing this to life with all the little extras! It's gonna look reall good with some gunk and grime on it.

Make sure you torque those nuts down in the correct order now. :D

Most of you will see this today, but for those who will not be there.... I drilled out the front part of the motor and made some new motor mounts. The directions show the mounts sliding into the frame rails!!! Well of course I changed that....

Dennis, you're forgetting the weights for the wheels. Oh wait, do rat rods use those? or do they just run some weld bead on the wheel to balance it?

First and formost, this is a IN-PROGRESS thread!! Can you actually measure the weight of a weld? If so, let me know and I will use it as a wheel weight!! Don't hate the game, hate the player!! Dennis

This car is looking a lot like a period correct hot-rod than a rat for sure.

The wheels look killer, as does the motor. I look forward to seeing you mod the frame and body. Just don't make us wait 2 years to see it progress.

I can't wait to see more, keep it up dude.

I see a lot of debate about why people call hot rods rat rods, and a lot of hot rodders despise the term rat rod. I don't care what they call 'em-when they look good that's all that matters. This one looks like it's gonna be real good. There were a couple of big-scale "survivor" style rods at B'ham. They looked better than the clean ones IMHO :)

I like busting your chops Denny, just like you bust mine. Im sure theres a way to measure the weight of a weld. Its too easy to hate the player, so we hate the game instead.

So are you going nuts with this build? You better bolt it out in time for the Deuces show. :D
