This is the Herbie VW I'm building for a co-worker to add to his collection. It will never be in a contest and will be a shelf queen for the rest of it's life.
Is the finish good enough to:
a) Wax it and box it?
b) Lightly finish sand it and polish?
c) Do a full finish sand and polish?
Tell me what you think.

I would just use compound on it to rid it of most the orange peel then decal it and call it good.
Don't wax it it before decals or they won't stick.

Polish it with compound, like Tamiya compound or Meguiars Scratch X. It'll shine it up w/o waxing it, you can paint over it and you can apply decals over it. Maybe use some Tamiya wax after the decals are on it. Looks pretty damned good as-is. And I wanna see you build the RX8 that's in those pics ;) :D

Thanks for the tips....and I do think I'll just do the Tamiya compound rub and finish it out.
As for the RX8......I was doing some research because I was going to put on a aero kit then paint the Mazda LeMans scheme (the green/orange/white stitching) but saw where a guy did the very same thing and posted it on the AF forum this week. So maybe I'll just do the version in the picture which isn't bad at all.

Another quick update! The body turned out pretty good and is just about ready for decals. The "tub" needs work, the way the engine block fits is.....well....it just sucks! To the point of glueing the cover shut.

Looks really good buffed out. What color did you paint it?
I picked up those same waterslide decals for my Herbie kit. Let us know how they work out for you.

After Tamiya White base I rattle canned (3) coats of TS-7 Racing White. The interior was rattled with TS-32 (I'm in a) Haze Gray. And if you can believe it there is a debate about what color the interior should be. A friend has a 1/18th die cast has an all white interior which 50% of the restored 1:1 are a white/gray mix and the others are all gray. I went with gray because that's how I saw it in the movie plus it gives a better color contrast.
