Whoopee. A rental car in black and gold (barf) buying the name of a shameless promoter who was a racing legend 40 years ago dredging up the past for starving lemmings. Nice gig if you can get it. I wouldn't be so cynical if Shelby had done more to retain the legend than tape stripes and glorified kit cars he's recycled over and over in the past 25 years. Take a new Shelby to LeMans and fight to win the class and I'll forgive the old bastard. Anything else is just noise.

I'll take the Parnelli Jones version, no need to have a Shelby-Pimped poseur in my driveway ;) :D

The only Shelby Mustangs that I have an interest in are the new GT-500 and the old shelby's of the 60's. They should have at least done a new wheel for the new GT-H model.

What's funny is how much I liked the original GT-500H in those pictures. Considering the real ones ran what look like Magnum 500's, I'm surprised they didn't use the wheels from the Mach I. Guess the offset is different.

I do like the new GT-500, mostly as the appearance closely matches the concept car which was watered down a good bit for production. The Parnelli Jones edition is cool, but damn...55 grand is steep.

Reminds me of how $$ the last Cobra R's were. I actually saw a real one on the road not too long ago :eek:

Instead of whoring out driveway jewelry I'd love to see Ford/Shelby get back the mojo that they had in the 60's with a singular mission to beat their competition on the track at LeMans-that would give them the most bang for the buck worldwide. They've been banking on that former glory for far too long. Give us something to look forward to, not to look backwards on.
