These are pictures of my recently completed Custom Purple 1949 Mercury. I started with a ModelHaus resin body and used an AMT/Ertl 1949 Mercury as a donor kit.

The car is chopped, dechromed, slammed and has these custom features: frenched headlights, a 1957 Corvette grille and custom bullet taillights. The wheels are chrome smoothies from a 1958 Corvette.

I resin cast the rolled and pleated front and rear upholstery and used styrene half round for the dashboard upholstery. The dash features an instrument cluster from a 1953 Studebaker and a 1963 Oldsmobile steering wheel.

The body was primed with Tamiya gray primer and I airbrushed (first attempt, ever) Pactra Acrylic Candy Pearl Purple base coat. I airbrushed an acrylic clear coat and polished it with Meguires Scratch-X.

Enjoy!

Great work! Both models looked great at the meeting, and I enjoyed seeing how well that old TOSOTR Monogram Z28 can look when built to a high standard.

What acrylic clear did you use? Future? Or hobby paint? Or other??

Inquiring minds wanna know ;)

Bob,

I took a cue from your excellent paint work on the IROC Porsche I am building and used Future Acrylic Floor Wax for the clear coat.

Nice Merc. Purple is definately my favorite color on this car.

What did you paint the wheels with? They look especially bright.

Matt,

The chrome wheels are from the RM ProModeler 1958 Corvette kit and (thankfully) did not require any more work from me.
