I think MB will be phasing out the coupe version in the future to make a cabriolet SLR as well; so I imagine Tamiya must be thinking about two models for the price of 1 1/2. It should look pretty sweet as a roadster.

Cool, ive got a ton of pics i took at a show of the SLR. Good modellers perspective shots at that and a ton of engine out of body shots as well. Lets hope it has the engine.

I would still like a current 600 SL, my neighbor has one. It's sweet!

I'm not sure if Tamiya makes a silver that's quite as "sparkly" as the SLR's silver. The metallic scale of the SLR's silver is quite noticeably larger than the silver on other Benz's. Not quite "bass boat" silver, but definitely a larger metallic flake.
Testors Model Master "German Silver" is a very accurate silver, too bad it's only in enamel. Tamiya's acrylic silver might be a good start as well; it's nowhere near as finely ground as the spray silvers.

Do I hear Leon rattling cans and bottles now?
After seeing the car in person at the dealership you can see the different shade of silver. Not like they would use a standard OEM color on this car but it did seem to have more of white/metallic tone to it.

Oh my, this is good news. I guess Tamiya is still making models after all.
I'm sure the opening doors will be a must for Tamiya, they like gimmicky stuff like that. It'd be a shame not to have that engine and unique exhaust in the kit too.

Ive saw two of these cars in person, one silver the other black. If i was to do it silver i would spray it sliver leaf then clear it and rub it out, just like i did my clr!

On the real car the silver has medium sized metal flakes in it, very flashy.

There's a tiny bit more information (now) on Tamiya's Japanese page about the car. Late August delivery.

Translated from the Tamiya webpage.
As for the gull-wing door left and right using the metal shaft, the actual car opening and closing is possible in the same way. * Be able to open and close also the engine hood, it reproduces also 5.5 liter V8 スーパーチャージドエンジン. * As for chassis die-cast make.
So it sounds like a bet each way - full detail, but die cast chassis.....

Was surfing this am and found the release date for the SLR/McLaren.
The release date is August 25th and the kit # is 24290. This means
a few of this kits will be seen on the Exotic table at the show.I can't
wait.I know a few folks will have some MIND blowing examples.:D

Can't wait for this one, I am going to have to put on the "thinking cap" to come up with a version different than stock.

I think I'm going to wait until I see the kit. The real car overall just doesn't do it for me other than the exclusivity (if that's a word) of it. But in 1/24th scale I may really like it in something other than silver or black.

I like the SLR, at least after I saw one, but I too will be a "wait and see" kind of buyer. I don't like it so much that I'm willing to spend big $$ for it and will be like many hoping that we'll find it for 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby :D
I'd be just as happy having Revell issue it without the opening doors for 1/5 the price

This is enough to get me to put down my airplanes for a while and build something with wheels.. hrmmm... pearl white with blacked out BBS rims and red interior...

The bad news is that it does not have a Paris Hilton figure for a DUI diorama.

The modeling world mourns the fact that we won't have a plastic figure of a plastic figure :D
