 I guess the good ole boys are going to be doing a little drifting. The website Jayski posted this....

Nextel Cup drivers to compete in drift competition: Nextel Cup drivers #9-Kasey Kahne, Bill Elliott, #16-Greg Biffle, #7-Robby Gordon and #42-Casey Mears are scheduled to take part in the Aug. 31 Mopar D1 All-Star Duel at Irwindale Speedway in California. The exhibition pits eight Nextel Cup drivers against eight D1 Professional Drift Grand Prix Series drivers. Vaughn Gittin Jr., Rhys Millen, Samuel Hubinette, Yasuyuki Kazama and Ken Nomura are already pledged to the D1 team. The NASCAR drivers will compete in drift cars provided by D1. An autograph session is part of the event, and all proceeds will benefit the Kasey Kahne Foundation, which supports charitable organizations that care for chronically ill children and their families.(SceneDaily.com)(8-13-2006)

Considering stock car racing's roots are drifting on dirt tracks, perhaps the sport is about to go "full circle" :D

Vaughn Gitten was the first American to win D1 last year, sure to be a spectacular even this year. Kenny Nomura, is hilarious and Sam Hubinette is the Swedish Drift king.

Im interested to see how the Nascar fella's do since it involves turning in more than one direction in no particular pattern.

Hope to see it on TV.

I didn't see anything about it being on Speed. I'm not much on the D1 and my NA$CAR days are about to fade away but if they are going to put in a legitimate effort and not just a dog and pony show I'd watch it.
And like Bob said the old dirt track drift could come into play and a guy like Elliott would do well.

 What's the world coming to Toyota races in NASCAR with a RWD, 4 barrel V8 Camary - where can I buy one for the street:confused: I agree if they really try to race it could be interesting, I remember watching 1/4 mile dirt track races and that was all it was - one long continous drift. Wonder how many of the National Association of Spec Car Automobile Racing (NASCAR:p :p :p ) have dirt track experience? What's next DONKS at Talledega?:D

Sounds like a match made in heaven. Nascar is more exibition than racing and drifting....well...drifting is like figure skating. Why not, people will buy into anything with enough hype.

its a wonder with Jeff Gordons background of dirt track racing that he didnt get involved in the scoop as well. Since the retirement of the GA based driver (Elliott) i have all but quit watching altogether.
