Two twins from different mothers......

This is my 3rd Christmas project for co-workers. And just like on Sundays it's plywood verses lumber the #20 & #48 both are from the 04' season. The kits are from Revell and are the standard run of the mill quality, a little flash but areas that still haven't been updated since the 1980's. My build will be all out box stock with only the #20 getting aftermarket decals and paint scheme change. These two will be shelf queens never to see any contest so my build will be basic but as clean as I can make it. Feel free to make any suggestions or comment.

Cool. Don't follow NASCAR but are these guys any of the ones that get in so much trouble? Diorama with throwing helmet?

And what's with NASCAR drivers and phallic names? Dick Trickle? Jimmie Johnson? Surprised there's not a Peter Ramming in the series :D

I think Peter is replacing Mark Martin in the Viagra car.

I'm about 5 years removed from being as big a fan as I used to be myself. The two guys I'm building these for stay in arguments over these two drivers all the time. Which was most of my inspiration to build these....just to see them stay mad at each other.

A little bit more of an update. The chassis and interior came together pretty well, not a lot of detail again just a basic build. I wish Revell would give this area and the drivetrain a much needed make-over. The Jimmy Johnson & Tony Stewart drivers didn't turn out as well as I would have liked....(I haven't done any figure detail since I gave up the military stuff years ago). But once they are down in the Butler seat and inside of the roll cage there won't be much to see. I'm not sold on the seat position in relation to the gear shift and if you were to do a full detail project you may want to look into it.
The bodies were both primed, sanded, and painted with Tamiya rattle cans. The #48 was sprayed with Silver Leaf and the #20 with Gloss Black and once dried rubbed out with Tamiya compounds.

Excellent progress Hal, both are looking really good and clean. The driver figures look good to me. On the figures, did you paint them white and the rest is decals or did you have to paint the white and blue on JJ ?

I was lucky that both JJ & TS have suits that have a dark lower half & white upper half. So I sprayed them with Tamiya Racing White then masked for the lower half of each one. The arms have decals for either the upper arm or at the cuff and then I hand brushed where the lines didn't meet.

An overdue update. I finally finished the (2) roll cage/chassis and they are about as basic as I could make them. The decals are 99.9% done on the bodies and about all that is left is final clean up, clear coat and install the glass. Maybe they will be finished in time for the 06' Daytona.....:D

Those are looking great Hal. The black paint on the #20 looks awesome.

They both look great. Nice and clean. I really like the scheme on the #20 car.

Where did those jackstands come from?

I've got to agree the black #20 scheme turned out better than I thought it would have. I'm thinking of doing one for myself a little later. I would consider masking some areas to paint white to save on the "layering" of the decals. On the side panels they ran from the top of the roof line down to the side skirts so I had to section them out to get a good fit.
The jacks came in a 1/24 die cast set that included a war wagon and a decent set of rims and tires. There was also a set with a fully detailed engine, a stand, and tools and another that had pit crew accessories. All were $10 each at Wally World and would even make good resin casting subjects.

The Twins are finally done. They are about to be packed up and transported to their new owners. It was a fun basic build but as much as I juggle multiple projects at the same time I don't know if I would want to try to finish two at once again.
