Not too much of a surprise but good to see Speed make it.

Fantastic news but it'll be hard for him to make a mark in one of the kaboose teams... maybe RedBull will promote him on up and show some commitment.

RICHARDS PLANNING PRODRIVE F1 TEAM
Last Updated: Sunday, 18, December, 2005, 14:19
Former BAR-Honda and Benetton team boss David Richards says he is considering a return to Formula 1 with his own team in 2008, but only if the sport becomes cost effective for small outfits once more.
Richards, whose Prodrive preparation company is planning an F1 facility in Warwickshire according to F1 Racing magazine, admitted his plans depend on the sport adopting Max Mosley's cost-slashing proposals for 2008.
"If the changes that Max [Mosley] is trying to bring forward in the next couple of years come to fruition, I firmly believe there will be room for small organisations to operate within F1," DR said in the January edition of the magazine, which goes on sale Tuesday, December 20.
"A small, nimble outfit can actually tip the balance in F1 and bring it back to where it rightfully belongs –where the fans are."
Richards was forced to watch from the sidelines this year after he was ousted from his post at BAR when Honda bought 45% percent of the team in the winter of 2004.
And he warned that manufacturers must not be allowed to take over Formula 1.
"The Toyotas won't be around for ever, though," he added.
"The car makers – for eminently valid reasons – use motorsport as long as its useful to them. Then they discard it. And the independent teams will be left to pick up the pieces.
"If Max isn't allowed to succeed in his crusade, then more fool F1."

That is good news and it makes the 08' changes even more important. Plus what he said about the manufactures is true because Toyota backed out of the IRL just this week.

What's F1? ;)

When will the RACES have as much impact as all the DRAMA and BS that seems to be the whole reason the series exists?

They lost me last year after Indy. I kept my word finally and didn't watch it again. Dunno if I'll ever bother to return. Maybe if Speed Channel worsens their coverage of WRC might I decide to watch something as boring as an F1 race. How many others woke up to watch a race at 8am on a Sunday and fell asleep halfway through??

The Goodwood races shown yesterday were 10,000 times better :D

Maybe Kimi can get him drunk and shave those stupid eyebrows off...that would be fun.

That would be fun. But Kimi would have to be drunk too. A drunk robot would be hilarious ;)

Word is that Kimi is going to Ferrari in 07 and this is a way to get/keep a potential World Championship -caliber driver. I don't think it will be a kimi Alonso team.

Yeah, that's the hot rumor...and Kimi is the only driver good enough to keep Ferrari committed to spending mega bucks on the program...and I have my doubts that once Schumi leaves that they will continiue at the current level of effort. For one thing Kimi isn't as marketable, and secondly an era like the Ferrari/Schumi one only comes around once.

Renault has a reputation of getting out of F1 after they have a couple good runs so it wouldn't surprise me if they leave after '06....which means Alonso has made a more stable move. McLaren definitely has the best chassis and I'm sure they can conquer the reliability problems.
