Hi all,

Been back at the bench some playing with the new Cayman S kit. After some quick measuring discovered the Tamiya GT3 body parts would fit on it nicely and they look alot like TechArt's kit.

I sawed the bottom 3/16" or so from the GT3 front end and glued it to the Cayman body....the contours of both are so close it didn't need any filling, just a bit of sanding to bring the two shapes in tune.

I sawed the sideskirt from the break line down off the Cayman and glued a back-up strip of plastic to the inside of the Cayman body...then glued the GT3 skirts in place.

Sawed the rear lower corners from the GT3 body and glued them over the Cayman's rear corners just to bring the body a bit lower back there.(the TechArt kit doesn't have these.

The bodywork is a little deeper than TechArt's. The rear spoiler is just a mock-up, still looking for something not too big for it.

These rims will be used but the lip will be chrome and the spokes semi gloss black.

Not sure about body colour yet.

Beautiful Work! I cannot believe how well the Tamiya parts work on their. Looks natural to me.
Look forward to you finishing this one.

Looks good so far. Those wheels aren't ideal, in fact I've yet to find a car that they really look good on (not that I've tried all that hard :D ). Wish they made all the wheels modular so the offset was adjustable. Wish I had the capital to invest in what XS Tuning should have been

Finally got some paint thrown on. I mixed Ferrari's Verde Mugello with silver just for a bit of a tint. The pics don't show it's true color but when finished the outdoor pics will be a better representation.

Decided to use Carrera GT wheels and they are painted a gunmetal metallic color.

Seat faces and door panel strip sre Acryl's Sloth Brown.

looking good from a customizers eye. Definitely a work of art in my eyes.

I'm going to be quite honest here. I'm not feeling it now. Not sure if it's the paint and wheels or what.
The body mods are outstanding! The primer white photo's you posted were great, and showed that the GT3 pieces could really add to the look of the Cayman.

I do not in anyway mean any dis-respect. IT is a beautiful piece of work, but as I mentioned, the paint and wheels just aren't working for me.

I'll most likely change my mind once I see your whole ensemble tied together.

Keep at it!

I sorta agree with you Chris but that's me judging by these pic's only. Having seen it in person the color is very nice and will look great once polished. The wheels, the way they look now seems kind of bland just being dark grey by themselves but I think once the center hub is attached to the wheels and gets detailed with the red and blue paint for each side, respectively, and the big brakes are visible behind them... It'll come together.

The only suggestion I would make is to have a slightly taller sidewall on the rear tire to balance out the side skirt and larger rear wing.

No offense taken. I can understand the hesitation, no one has ever seen a Cayman in these colors before.

I could have gone mainstream with red, yellow or one of the other stock colours... but I am after a more expensive look. More luxury GT like the 997's, depending of course on how they are optioned.

I will prolly build a stock one in stock colours just for contrast.

Thanks!

Having seen it in person I can honestly say it looks better in person than in the pictures. The color is greener than the pics seem to show, it's almost a dead match for Satin Jade, the same color as my SLR. I think it will be a knockout when finished and detailed. Maybe not my first pick for color, but that's always subjective.

Well, its certainly personal preference and the pics may not show the real appearance, but I dont care for green tinted silver colors. In the pics, the car is on a green matt and is reflecting the green. Maybe pics of the car on a white base would cast a different color?

I am totally digging it. Those wheels are just what it needed. It's all coming togetehr for me, color and all. The Cayman isn't one fo my favorite Porsches, but this is looking killer. And if there's one thing I've learned, when Bri's putting soemthing togetehr and you don't quite know where it's going, be prepared to be rocked.

I'm happy my post came across as I wished. Without feelings and actions available to the other posters, I was quite worried how you would take my comments.
Face to face with you I would have said the same thing.
All that aside, I'm actually happy to see you take it in a non-mainstream fashion.
After reading what the other guys have said, and knowing their tastes, I have no doubt that once tied together it will be, simply put, AWESOME!
Look forward to future updates.
Chris

Brian:

It is looking great and there is a company making a GT3 front fascia for the Cayman, saw it at Sebring last year. Really looking forward to seeing this in person.

i drove down to midtown about a week ago and happened to see a white caymen with a set of BBS wheels in black, that definitely made me do a double take. Im glad i was sitting at a red light or i would have wrecked, amazing what a set of wheels does to a car of that nature...especially white.
