Hi I'm Mike, some of you may remember me. I used to host the club meetings back in the mid 90's over at the old Model wharehouse. I've changed jobs but I'm still in the hobby business up in Braselton now. I got all fired up about building cars again when I came to the show back in November. I was happy to see alot of the old guard and would like to thank Paul and Bob for allowing me to visit the show before the actual opening to the public. My interest in car models is just about anything. Since I moved my work area is currently limited me in projects in 1/43 scale. I live in the Buford triangle so coming to the meetings is going to be difficult but I'd like to come. If any of you are ever coming to Yearone for any shows, let me know and I'll show you around.

Hey Mike, it was good seeing you at the NNL and glad to see you here! I'm planning to be @ Road Atlanta for the Mitty and for the YO experience. Saw "Drive" last night w/the Challenger w/YO logo in the rear window, you might ask David Crowe how it is that the highway to Rome GA is now in a desert and 8 lanes wide

Snake Doc; were you the one that worked at Cobra Restorers? I just finished a primered Cobra 427 body for a Scale Auto article about primer, and it's shipping there for a cover shot. Glad I had a parts-box set of wheels/tires from a Fujimi GT40; they're worlds better than the Monogram parts. I think I've been talked into a bare metal body finish (Tamiya AS 12), and a couple of my evil-minded friends of mine (*cough* Eric and Wayne *cough*) want me to make it w/polished stripes

Hmmmm.... I don't know what you're talking about!

Anyway, since I've already done one of the bare metal body finishes you have to do one with the polished stripes. What good is "just another" bare metal Cobra?

One of the kits I was looking for at the NNL was the new Fujimi 427. Has anybody in the club got one yet. The Monogram kit is 20 years old but was the best for a long time. Don't forget the inner panels for the engine compartment like Mongram did.

Mike, I was happy to see you at our show last year, and am glad to see you on our forum. Welcome back, and come to our meetings! You were a very gracious host when we held our meetings at your facility back in the mid-90's.

I'll take you up on your YO tour offer.

Bob, I also don't recall seeing mountains in FL, and am wondering what the factory code was for the blue center stripe on 1970 Challengers?

Don't bother w/the Fujimi kit; this one is much better. The Fujimi kit has an odd looking body, the front/rear wheels/tires are the same size, the engine is ridiculously simplified, the windshield frame is 2-3 times too thick.

This one actually is a 20 YO Monogram kit, blue metallic plastic and all, I think it's the first issue of the Cobra. The only real problems I see w/the Monogram kit are the kit tires and lack of inner door panels, and perhaps the rectangular taillights aren't correct for the S/C? I'm still figuring how I might get the polished stripe effect w/o too much hassle. Guess I could always use decals; I think white stripes on the bare metal body would look as good or better.

I'm pretty sure that code is BS-4-U2-EH

Guess I could always use decals; I think white stripes on the bare metal body would look as good or better. The Monogram kit is based on Greg Lonbergers car wich was an S/C. The rectangular tailights are correct for all Cobras as AC bought them from Lucas. The round ones you see are generally found on the later chassis#'s although you may see an S/C with the round ones, I never have. There is also no inner door panels on an S/C as they were simply covered in black vinyl. Thanks for the info on the Fujimi kit as we've all made the $45.00
mistakes because we assume the import kits are always descent. I also bought a set of the six spoke resin wheels from some aftermarket mfgr years ago because I was going to do an early S/C or a Dragonsnake and those cars sometime used the six spoke Daytona Coupe style wheels. I think they came from Replicas and Minitures. As far as the bare metal stripes, I did that years ago with two shades of Testors metallizer and the SNJ polishing powder. I would'nt recommend it because it was a huge mess. The side vents are also a hassle when it comes to paint because they allow the material to puddle when your clearcoating.
