I'm going to try to come to the meeting this Sunday and if any club members are needing a spectator pass please let me know before Friday so I'll know how many to bring. I've only got access to a very small number of them right now. You can either reply to this post or e-mail me mikea@yearone.com or call me at 800-950-9503 x422.

Mike, how much are the spectator passes this year? My two roommates and have gone the past couple years, we're planning on going. But I think one of them is planning on entering so he can do the autocross events. Do you know what the entry fee for that is too?

But I think one of them is planning on entering so he can do the autocross events. Do you know what the entry fee for that is too? The three day event registration is $50.00 which includes a spector pass plus entry forms for showing your car along with wet and dry autocross. There's a seperate registration for the hot laps and track day. A plain old spectator pass is $10.00 and they're only available at the gate. I've got a few of the spectator passes available so let me know if you need any since they're free for club members.

I want to drive my car on the track... :D

As long as I don't end up in a traffic jam like they did at the Mitty  that would be no fun....

Oh, never mind, I see that the "at speed in your own car" event is sold out except for Friday morning and unfortunately, I'll be at work then. :(

The parade laps are the same thing only they're broken up into three orfour lap sessions.

Is it still possible to get one of those tickets Mike? I meant to ask you at the meeting but it totally slipped my mind.

Zoom Zoom, AcmeAdmin, myself and Colleen attended courtesy of Snake Doc. Thanks for the passes! Zoom Zoom and AcmeAdmin probably used up half the tread life of Scott's '07 C6 doing 16 laps around Road Atlanta. No pictures of that (don't worry, I've already chided Zoom Zoom for not sitting up in his seat to photograph the at speed view!) :D

Fantastic pictures! I loved the 74 SD show circuit car. Was it the real one or just done up to look like the 74 show car?
Looked like a great show! Thanks for sharing the pics!

You know your SD's far better than I do; which car is it? The black and gold? Or ??

Used to be a silver SD up in SC that looked a lot like the plain silver car in photos 106 & 107. I autocrossed against it in the late '70's in my '78 Grand Am. He spun a bearing

LOL Sorry about that Bob, picture 40 and 41. Pontiac used a 1974 SD-455 Trans Am and painted it John Player special colors(black and gold). It was a GM show style car, only one produced, but it looked really good and should have been done. They did this with a 1973 Trans Am SD-455 as well especially built for John Player.
Anyway, I was just curious if it was the real one or a one off. Probably not even an SD car. The vin would have an X, not that you would have looked close.
The special one off Trans Am cars have always intrigued me and the 74 SD-455 in those colors was really something they should have offered.

I'm not feeling the Bandit Trans Am by Year One. The people who bought the real cars and buy them now can't even afford to own one of these. Neat concept, too high of a price. But if you have the means and this is up your alley, by all means play!

I take it the SD you raced was a re-paint and built for racing? The SD cars were never offered in silver. Then again, it could have been a transplanted engine. The silver T/A in the pictures is a 1975 version, those are rarer than people think. One year build as with the 74-76, but a lot fewer 75's are around now.
Anyway, It all sounded like fun! I wish we had access to shows like this. Thanks again!

I'm familiar with the 1974 show car, and was thinking of it as I was taking the pictures. I just presumed it was a well done clone. I did not do any verifying of it at the time. What about the exhaust tips? Did the '74 show car have the 1974 production car tips, or the 1977 style drooped one?

I had not heard of a black and gold 1973. Do you have any pictures of this one?

I've always liked the 1975 style. My fondness probably stems from the fact that I built the MPC '75 Formula annual as a teenager.

I'm not feeling that Bandit T/A either. Neat idea, completely over-the-top pricetag. For $175K (quoted price of the Bandit car that was debuted) I'd shop elsewhere. I like the other color schemes a lot more, I'm always anti-gold trim on anything.

The silver SD I remember from the autocross was supposedly an original car; it was in '78 or '79 when I saw it, the guy driving it had quite a collection of cars and lots of $$, I think he said he had special ordered it and had it since new. I saw it at the Pontiac dealership the week after the autocross, he had DNF'ed during a run and the car wasn't running well. I knew the service advisor and asked what was the matter w/the SD, he said it had spun a bearing, and it would be an expensive rebuild because it was an SD. So who knows? IIRC it was a '74. If not silver it was a very, very light gray. I just remember it being a really nice looking car, bone-stock. The SD part was icing on the cake.

The 74 Show car had the straight pipe coming out, factory for 74, not the droop pipes that came out in 76/77.

I've since sold the book that had the picture of the 73. If I recall correctly the 73 was done as a what if in the player colors and then was given to John Player. The only photo I remember was seeing it by a tree with a similarly painted Harley Davidson Motorcycle.
I'll see if I can find the picture on the net. If I do I'll post it here for you.

Chris Thanks for coming to the show and all of the beautiful photos Paul. The turnout was the largest ever and our Bandit T/A was a huge success saleswise. If I'm not mistaken, the black and gold 73 T/A Crispy is reffering to was once kept at "fellow 1/43 Ferrari model enthusiast" Chuck Jordan's house a long time ago. I was there with Dave Seibert about 25 years ago. There are numerous photos of that car on the Bandit Trans Am Club site. You'll know you're on the right sight when "Eastbound and Down" blows your speakers out.

Zoom Zoom contributed some of the pics as well. He was able to photo that cool black '62 Country Squire that I could never find. I would see it in the distance at the various venues, but never got close enough to get a decent picture. It was present at the January Barrett Jackson auction.

Now that you and Crispy have mentioned it, I do recall that photo of the b&g '73 TA with the motorcycle. I'll have to check out the website you mentioned. The 1970-75 Firebirds have always been big favorites of mine.

Mine too! Especially 1970-1973, ditto Camaro. Pretty exotic shape for their day, and still look great. I would think I could find a nice SD for well under what the Bandit sells for, but I'd go for a sleeper look first-a standard Firebird w/no flares, no nostrils, no vinyl top, just a good V8 driver car w/rally wheels and some suspension/brake upgrades. I'll build one of the reissue Monogram T/A's that way when I have a chance...

A nice 73 SD sells now for about what those Bandits sell for and even more. The most desirable color on the 73 SD is the Brewster Green.
I helped a friend sell his 74 SD and that went for $110,000.

Bob, sounds like you would fit in a 73 SD-455 Formula. Just has the shaker and the rear spoiler. Understated at that.

I can't seem to find that picture. I believe it was in the book Firebird!. Which I don't have anymore.

SD Formulas and Brewster Green SDs. Mmmmm. Better than fried chicken, but none of the greasy screamin' chicken aftertaste :D

These all are kickass cars and these are my idea of the ultimate early '70's Firebirds:

http://images21.fotki.com/v834/photos/1/10258/23480/74fb1-vi.jpg

This Formula SD must be worth a fortune. Wonder how many people actually know that SD Formulas all came w/the shaker instead of the nostrils?
http://images24.fotki.com/v854/photos/1/10258/23480/pontiacfirebird1974a-vi.jpg

I remember seeing a Brewster Green T/A locally. I can't remember if it was an SD car or not. It's been years since I saw it, my recollection is that it had a light color interior. It was killer looking.

And this one is way cool even if it isn't nearly as rare. I love the look of this car, or even a standard Firebird w/o the Formula nostrils.
