Laugh, or cry. I just don't know. Who knows, Revell USA may be OOB by this time next year anyway w/the demise of Wal Mart sales after Jan. 1 '08.
I think we need to call this the AARgh Cuda. Beware:

You are correct. They retooled the AAR body, and failed miserably for a second time to get it to look right.
Problem areas:
The character line at the beltline is wrong. They completely missed any semblance of accuracy with the line. Look at the rear fender on the boxart; the top of the fender line is completely incorrect. Because of this, if one were to bother to fix the fender contour, then the decal would be all wrong.
The wheel openings are misshapen, the area aft of the rear wheel is very poor. You can see in the boxart how high up behind the wheel the fender opening ends.
The C pillar is too thin. This makes the decklid look too long, and with the unflattering character line of the rear fender it makes the 'cuda flanks look like cellulite-riddled thunderthighs.
The money Revell spent to incorrectly tool two bodies for this turkey would have been better spent tooling an all-new 1/25 scale tool. This one is still based on the Challenger. It's never going to be right.
I can't believe that people are giving Revell a pass on this one "oh I'm so happy just to have it that I'll still buy several, and everyone knows all models aren't perfect and good modelers should know how to fix it". I gave them that last time, but screwing it up a second time is ridiculous. Revell knows better. The best use for the new AARgghhh? Put it in a paper bag, set it on fire on a neighbor's stoop, ring the bell, and run.

I'm glad it's just not my imagination then. I looked at the boxart in the store and thought that this actually looked worse than the other. The very things you mentioned were what tipped me off. That's why I had to ask, wait a minute here, this can't be the new kit. I'd so looked forward to an acurate kit of this beast. I have a stack of the original and just don't have the desire to build it like this. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

Somebody measured the new AAR and compared to measurements of the 1:1.
The model is one scale foot too long. The door is a scale 4" too long. The wheelbase is 7" too long (and that means 5" oversized on the Challenger). The jist is that all of Monogram's Challengers/Barracudas are off dimensionally. The AAR is the one that shows it the most.
I don't care about "numbers", I care most if something looks right or not. The AAR looks terribly wrong. The numbers help prove the point.
