Some of you may already know, Im planning on machining a ZZ502 Bowtie Motor out of aluminum with fully functional internals with the exception of spark plugs sparking and injectors injecting.

Well, I've spent the past 10 hours or so designing the crank. I first figured out the firing order for the 502, then I looked at a pic of the motor with the head of to figure out where the pistons were when cylinder 1 was at TDC. Yadda, yadda, yadda, lots of design to figure out the crank position for the exact firing order.

Here are some AutoCAD 3D drawings. No where near the quality of Kris's, but what do you expect with AutoCAD rendering?

Next up is to figure out the cam. That should be fun trying to figure out valve lift, lobe size and configuration for correct valve timing.

Enjoy!

May the ghost of Augie be with you(since you have his lathe).;)

Heres the cam, took a long time to figure out but here it is and it works.

Correct valve timing (IVO 6.5° ATDC; IVC 37.5° ABDC; EVO 47.0° BBDC; EVC 3.0° BTDC), .510 Intake Lift, .540 Exhaust Lift, 211° Intake duration, 230° exhaust duration.

All thats left is to design the cam gear that turns the diff and the cam is complete.

That's pretty impressive! Now all you have to do is design and build a 1:12 cam grinder.......

I need to order Enzyte just to keep from feeling diminished. Keep up the great work - you make all of us proud.

Nice CAD work, you can't have the CADguy title though, that's all mine. :D
I look forward to seeing you make this in real metal.

Wayne, your new Cayman should have roughly the same effect as Enzyte, and Viagra combined...

Nice 3D modeling; though I think the date the finished model debuts keeps getting shoved further and further back ;) as in Clay has nothing to worry about this year  :D

Yeah, I know Bob. However, I am planning on machining the internals towards the end of May to allow time for more important things to be completed. I will go ahead an machine the block, and bare heads as soon as possible.

I've been working on the new frame design a lot too. So not all is lost in engine design to be hidden.

Hopefully I can kick it into high gear the next few months to make up for lost time.
