Well, sorry, this isn't it :p
This is Jada's "Big Time Muscle" 1/24 scale Shelby GT500. And it's pretty darned good. The boxart and boxart model are hideous. After seeing Steve Lingrenn's Camaro concept, I figured this one had to be similarly good. And it is.
Body is fairly accurate, the hood looks a bit inflated because they radiused the shoulders which should be more line soft chamfers. The arc over the side window molding is a bit flat. Rockers are a bit tall. But this will make a sweet modern street machine, looking pretty stock if you use normal wheels/tires, which this kit does not have! It's got the usual ginormous wheels. The chassis is tubbed due to this. Interior detail looks excellent. Separate side panels w/separate armrests so 2-toning is easy. Nice seat engraving, dash is setup w/a separate chrome insert for gauges and AC vents. Steering column has stalks.

Thanks for the small review Bob! I've been looking at the Corvette myself as well as this Mustang.
Again, it's as you said, the hideous box art keeps me away. If they would only bring out the beauty of the kit on the box I think they would sell many more. Just looking at this may get me to buy the Mustang for sure as well as the Vette kit with a 40% coupon if you know what I mean! LOL

It's hard to tell in these pics but are the wheel openings oversized to fit the kit wheels and tires? It looks like they are but the pictures can be deceiving without wheels and tires under the car to compare to.

They seem to be in proper proportion, when compared to the Revell kit and photos of the real car. If one were real picky they could wrap a piece of .010 evergreen stock in them to make the lip area slightly thicker. I don't think it's necessary. The Maisto 1/24 Mustang concept CV wheels fit like a glove, and the standard GT wheels they did on the stock coupe look fine on it, but they're a bit tame for a Shelby. Pegasus 23's look great, my favorite wheels w/the car are from the Infiniti FX, same wheels I put on the Scaglietti. They look like a cross between the Saleen and Parnelli Jones wheels, and are proportionally perfect for the car, same diameter as the Mustang concept CV wheels.

After talking with bob last night and seeing the pictures I can tell a trip to hobby Lobby is in order. Thanks for posting the info.

More pics below, and in the next post (we're limited to 10 pics). Model is exactly the same size as a Maisto GT. Therefore Maisto wheels fit it nicely. I tried GT wheels, and concept wheels, and Infiniti FX wheels which look like a nice combo of Parnelli Jones and Saleen. As you can see from the parts, detail is nice. As you can see from the hideous boxart, the model is better than the boxart subject model. I could conceivably build this car, personalize it a bit, and forget that Revell is doing one.

Couple more; you can clearly see opening doors on the boxart car, one of their diecast models which is bigger, dumber, and not nearly as good as this plastic kit:

I'm interested. I'll also need to check out the Ford GT. That might be another good surprise!

It's finally painted and buffed out! Ford Windveil Blue. With the Infiniti wheels it sure looks like a Saleen. Hopefully I'll have the black trim painted and the white stripes on it tonight.

Bob, you definitely have an eye for taking a basic model and making it better, the color looks great, reminds me of something you would see on Shelby Cobra or Daytona coupe. The wheels definitely add to the look.

Thanks; to be honest I didn't realize the connection w/the Cobra Daytona, or even the 67 GT500, in this color scheme w/white decals...and now that most of the white decals are on it, the whole theme is coming alive :) Pics tomorrow.

With the graphics in place, I feel the big wheels get distractive; fighting for attention with the rest of the car. I threw the Maisto GT wheels under it, and this setup seems more natural:

Maybe I'll try some other wheels at this point, but the Maisto 1/24 GT wheels seem work just fine and fill up the wheel openings with a low ride height, I don't think if I had properly-sized 1/24 stock GT500 wheels they'd look any better (the Revell wheels will be too small). Without the stripes, the Infiniti wheels made more sense. Weird :D

Looking good there Bob. I agree with Wayne too on the wheels. They look right at home there. I had a '65 Mustang when I was young and it was real close to that color so i'm biased to it anyway !!!

I like the Saleen style wheels better. I don't see them fighting for attention but I do see the stock wheels as way too tame or even old fashioned for the car w/stripes.
It makes me think of a car that someone tried to customize but didn't quite go all the way.

If you'd never seen the Infiniti wheels you might not think the same?
Cayman (15 spoke) wheels look pretty cool on it. The FX wheels are just a tad too big. The Cayman wheels manage to look modern, not unlike GT500 KR wheels. My brakes will fit these wheels with ease.

Yes, you're right, that's somewhat true. If I had never seen the Infinity wheels I might not think they were best for the car but I would still think the stock wheels are not best for the car. That could be because I've never liked the stock wheels.
I bet the 15 spoke Cayman wheels do look good on it.

They do. Look at my edited post. My brakes will fit them well. I think this is my answer.

More progress; engine/interior went together with ease, glass fits well, I had to use a chisel-tip Sharpie to get the black masking done inside the glass.
The Cayman wheels seem to be my favorite so far. Will they make it? Will I wimp out and use stock GT wheels? Tune in tomorrow :D

Looks great! I thought that kit would be kinda dumb, like very exagerated like on the box. But it looks good! Keep it up! -kevin
